Fearless Friday - Journey

One of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer is getting to hear how two people met. It always amazes me how people start down one path in life and then that journey leads them to an ending that they never expected. This week’s Fearless Friday post is about “Journey” (p.s. there is a giveaway at the bottom so make sure you read all the way down!)

I'd like to share with you the "journey" of Andy Meresse and Christie Schindler:

After high school, I began working a minimum wage job at a large retail store. I had NO knowledge of plants or anything else that I was supposed to be educating people about, but hey it was a job, right? After a couple of months working in the garden department I was asked to interview for a position in loss prevention. I thought the job sounded interesting so I applied for and got the position. Little did I know that having that job would completely change the path my life would follow.

After only a year of studying Psychology at the University of West Florida, I decided to transfer to Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida to work on my Bachelor’s degree in Criminology. I kept my loss prevention job with the retail store and transferred to the Tallahassee location. Later that year, I was promoted and began working as a loss prevention specialist, apprehending shoplifters and investigating theft and fraud trends. Yes, me! My job was to walk around the store in “regular” clothes and investigate theft trends, assist with internal theft cases, put up in-store cameras, conduct surveillance, and apprehend shoplifters.

Enter Andy Meresse…

I saw Andy quite often while working in retail. He was the one who would remove the shoplifters from my office, handcuffs and all. We always had a very professional working relationship. I always thought, and hoped, that he would ask me out one day but as the years went on he never did. After I graduated college I was promoted to manage a loss prevention department with the same retail store in Orlando, Florida. It was over a year before I saw Andy again. A mutual friend (whom neither of us knew was a mutual friend) happened to interview for a position at my old job. After asking Andy what he thought about the job, Andy realized that she knew who I was. A couple of phone calls later and Andy was headed to Orlando for our first real date. And, as they say, the rest is history…

I think the best thing about our story is that Andy proposed in the exact same place where we first met: in front of the registers in the same retail store, both of us in “uniform”, with a ton of unsuspecting shoppers looking on.

Four years later we have this little munchin...

I'll play...

I was casually dating someone who was in the Navy- first time to ever date a military guy and he had just left on a 2 week cruise to sea. I went out with a friend one night and my friend met a guy and I was hanging out alone and very bored. A guy asked me to dance. I said yes. Then his friends tried to hit on me (that was funny). 2 weeks later we went on our first date. I brought that friend as I was unsure about him and we went to a casino. He played $50 in blackjack and lost everything in 5 min. My friend plays slots for the first time and wins the grand nickel jackpot (with less that $5 in). The date was a bust but for some reason we tried one mroe time - just the two of us and we hit it off and have now been married for 14 years! I loved your story :)

I'd play but I think that's cheating. ;-) LOL I love your story Christie! It's so sweet and shows that God works in mysterious ways. I'm so happy He also brought us together!

I really enjoyed reading about your journey to marrying your hubby. I know it is cliche, but I'm a firm believer of everything happening for a reason. Thanks for sharing!

I love it when people have good stories about how they met. I enjoyed yours!

Let's see... Tommy and I met at a Halloween party. I'd heard of him- he went to my high school, but he is a lot older than me, so I'd never seen him before. We hung out at the party the whole time, and a week later we went on our first date. We've been inseparable ever since!

I'll play as well! You've gotten to know us a little since you've been taking pictures of Ethan, but they way we met I don't can't remember if we've shared with you or not.

Nathan was working for FedEx and realized that he had a lot in common with one of his co-workers Sean. At this point Sean and I were dating and Nathan would come over the Sean's house to watch movies. Well, they eventually rented an apartment together and Sean and I eventually broke up. About 6 months later I ended up moving to the same apartment complex and Nathan would sometimes come over and hang out. Over about the next year or so our paths just kept crossing and eventually we started dating. We've been joined at the hip ever since!

We’ll play too.

I had graduated FSU in 2007 with a degree in Criminology and had trouble finding a job. So in I started the Police academy in January 2009. Thinking I would be the ONLY female in the academy I went to orientation to find out that there would be 15 other females in my academy class (very unusual). In February we started the Defensive Tactics class and we were paired with partners that were similar in size to us. A couple days into the class Tabitha’s partner hurt her shoulder trying to stretch in to far during a move and had to drop out of class. The next day my partner landed wrong on her arm and tore her shoulder. The teachers then paired Tabitha and I together. I had noticed her in class and hoped they would pair me with her when my partner hurt her shoulder. We started dating in May and have been together ever since.
